michael A. goldsmith
Michael A. Goldsmith joined the firm as an Associate in 2000, and became a Partner in 2005. Mr. Goldsmith has extensive experience in the areas of municipal law, civil litigation, zoning, and land use. He has been named a “Super Lawyer,” one of ten in New England for municipal counsel, from 2013 to 2022. He has brought over fifty cases to trial in the Federal, Superior, Land, and District Courts, and he has appeared before the First Circuit Court of Appeals and the Massachusetts Appeals Court. He has argued scores of dispositive motions in all the Massachusetts trial courts.
Prior to joining Reynolds, Rappaport, Kaplan & Hackney, Mr. Goldsmith served as Assistant Corporation Counsel in the City of Boston Law Department, where he represented municipal employees in the federal and state courts. He was also in private practice as an associate with a large firm in Boston as a commercial litigator, and with a small Boston firm as a criminal defense attorney.
Community Involvement
Mr. Goldsmith served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurse Association from 2009 until 2013 and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, where he holds the office of President of the Board.
Personal
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Goldsmith was a longtime summer resident of Chilmark. He now lives in Oak Bluffs. He has a son, who is a college student.
